Centier Bank recently hosted “Budgeting and Bingo” at Gary Manor Senior Housing as part of its ongoing partnership to bring financial literacy lessons to residents of the Gary community. Employees from Centier’s Gary Midtown branch hosted the program, which teaches lessons from the FDIC’s Money Smart financial literacy curriculum. Centier has an ongoing partnership with Gary Manor and visits the center to teach financial literacy presentations every-other-month.
The FDIC’s Money Smart program is used to provide financial education workshops on topics such as credit, checking accounts, lending, and budgeting. At the Gary Manor holiday event series, residents were provided information about budgeting on a limited income. Residents learned various budgeting tactics prepared especially for their financial lifestyle. The financial lessons were incorporated with a game of bingo to keep residents engaged and to add an element of fun for the holiday season.
“We really value the relationships that we have created with Gary Manor residents,” stated Dakita Jones, Gary Midtown branch manager. “The seniors have made such an impression on my staff that employees even took a collection to purchase holiday gifts for the residents. We are grateful to be in a position where we can serve our community.”
The Gary Midtown branch is located at 1326 Broadway, in the Mid Towne Centre Shopping Plaza. For more information on financial literacy presentations available, please contact Dian Reyome, Centier Financial Literacy Coordinator, at dreyome@centier.com or 219-755-6140 x 1832.
