In preparation for Our Family Center’s 5th annual Gift of Hope, the faith-based organization offered free financial literacy classes for low income families in Hammond, Whiting and East Chicago. The classes were presented in English and Spanish by Centier associates, and stressed how creating a budget and staying within it, made saving money an attainable goal. Those who qualified for the program and attended the classes will receive gifts, food vouchers and more for all members of the family in order to bring hope this Christmas season.
The mission of Our Family Center is to “strengthen families in the Hammond area through education, guidance and compassion.” Rev. Raquel Forrest, co-director of Our Family Center, stated “The Gift of Hope is a unique program that helps families during the holiday season. This year we wanted to add to it, and felt that financial literacy classes will give families a hope that will last past our Gift of Hope program.”
