Letter from the President

This past year, we were all affected by the economic recession and global financial crisis.  We are, however, optimistic that during this time there are opportunities for organizations like ours to strengthen their efforts in support of the communities they serve. 

In 2008, Centier experienced a banner year, with record asset growth of over 10.7% ($190 million) to $1.96 billion, and record loan growth of 19% ($230 million), contributing to a net income of $20.2 million.

Once again, Centier was recognized and awarded with many honors in 2008, including:

• #5 “Best Places to Work” by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce
• “Best Bank for Business” by Northwest Indiana Business Quarterly (six years in a row)
• American Bankers Association Community Bank Award Certificate of Recognition
• Commitment to Financial Literacy – National Recognition

Centier celebrated a corporate milestone this past August with the grand opening of the Centier Centre, our corporate headquarters.  Planning for the Centier Centre took more than ten years and we are pleased to include this new facility among other corporate headquarters based in Northern Indiana.  The facility allows us to conduct business in a more efficient manner to maintain and support our growing customer base over the next 15 years. 

In addition to opening the Centier Centre, the Bank opened a newly constructed East Chicago branch and a third Gary location in the City’s Midtown area.  The addition of these two retail offices provides banking services to support redevelopment and renewal in our Northlake communities.  Looking forward, Centier plans to relocate our Hammond branch in 2009.   This new facility will further enhance our brand and market presence in Hammond.

It is important to know and recognize organizations that are stable and growing during this tough time in our economy.  Centier is on a path toward continued success, and we are proud of our achievements over the past century.  Our Schrage family owned and operated bank survived the 1930’s Depression and many recessions since then, and we will continue to thrive into future generations.  The loyalty of our clients, associates, businesses, and communities has allowed Centier to remain a strong independent community bank. 

In honor of our business legacy that spans over four generations, our associates and Board of Directors have signed a Declaration of Independence to symbolize our promise to the citizens of North/Northwest Indiana:
