In conjunction with the Federal Reserve’s fourth annual Money Smart Week in Indiana and the American Bankers Associations’ Million Children Challenge, the Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana hosted The ART of Saving on Monday, October 12th. The effort was sponsored by Centier Bank and the Girl Scouts, and Shari LeMonnier, professional artist and educator, taught the class.
Over 100 scouts learned about the importance of saving, and painted each side of their piggy bank to reflect their short and long term goals. The girls had active discussions about the importance of saving and also earned a financial literacy fun patch for their efforts.
“It’s never too early to start teaching kids to be financially savvy. This was a great way to show girls that learning about the importance of saving can be fun! It was truly a successful event.” Aminah Abdullah, Manager of Program: Entrepreneurship & Financial Literacy (Girl Scouts of Greater Chicago and Northwest Indiana)
