Centier Bank Executive Bob Buhle to Retire After 30 Years with the Bank
December 27, 2017
MERRILLVILLE - Centier Bank Senior Partner Bob Buhle plans to retire at the end of 2017, finishing a 30-year career with Indiana’s largest, private, family-owned bank.
Buhle has been at the center of the bank’s operations – the “backrooms and basements,” as he calls them – throughout much of his career. He managed operations for the bank during a period of immense technological change and growth for Centier. Buhle was at the forefront of adopting innovations and creating efficiencies through his decades of service to Centier.
“Centier Bank is proud to have benefited from Bob’s leadership, abilities, and friendship for over 30 years. He has been an integral part of so many successes over the years, provided priceless advice, and has been right at the core of the Centier culture since he joined us in 1987,” explained Mike Schrage, President and CEO of Centier Bank. “While he is leaving us day-to-day, Bob will always be a close member of our family, and we wish him continued success as he enters the next stage of his life.”
Buhle joined Centier in 1987 as the bank’s first Compliance Officer and is credited for purchasing the bank’s first personal computers. He then became Regional Manager of retail branches in 1989 and was then promoted to Senior Management during that same year. Buhle was instrumental in consolidating operations in 1995 and was involved in the design of the Centier Operations Center in 2000. Though he was centrally involved in many of the bank’s successes and milestones during his career, he is most proud of the culture at Centier.
“One of the greatest things I have seen accomplished at the bank is the creation of our culture and how it flows through everything we do,” explained Buhle. “It flows through how we serve our clients, how we build our products and services, and how we treat each other. It flows through our celebrations and it flows through the caring nature that a work family can provide. The culture is the hallmark of our bank.”
Buhle is a Valparaiso University Class of 1975 graduate and has been married to his wife, Mary, for 40 years. His plans after retirement are “to date my wife and play with my grandchildren.”
