Author Stephanie Jones Speaks to Centier Associates to Inspire Volunteerism, Community Giving

April 24, 2018

Centier Bank Stephanie L JonesMERRILLVILLE - To help kick off the bank’s Heart of the Community campaign, the bank welcomed The Giving Challenge: 40 Days to a More Generous Life author Stephanie Jones to speak with Centier associates about generosity, looking to motivate by adding more positivity to their everyday lives. Centier welcomed Jones to speak at the Corporate Centre along with being teleconferenced with branches and departments throughout the bank’s 60 locations.

As part of The Giving Challenge, Jones decided to give a gift to someone new for 40 consecutive days. The idea started as a New Year’s resolution but eventually transformed into a 500-consecutive-day streak, and ultimately lifestyle of giving to others with a current five-year streak underway. While that may seem like a massive undertaking, Jones encourages readers to start small.

“I think the biggest thing is being intentional about looking for opportunities to give. I think we live in a world where it is a little too easy to focus on ourselves instead of taking a minute to take a step back and look at the opportunities all around us,” said Jones. “Whether you’re looking at the organizations in our community that need support and volunteers or you’re at the grocery store and you see someone in need, there is always a way to get involved.”

From a business perspective, that generosity could manifest itself as a hand-written note, a personalized greeting, or finding a way to go the extra mile to solve a problem. Jones’ presentation was part of a kickoff to the bank’s Heart of the Community campaign, one in which associates are being called on to give back through random acts of kindness, volunteerism, and community support.

“We were thrilled to welcome Stephanie to Centier’s Corporate Centre today! We were confident that she would be a perfect speaker to help inspire our associates as we kick off our Heart of the Community campaign,” explained Anthony Contrucci, Vice President of Community Relations and Business Development at Centier Bank. “Her message of spreading random acts of kindness and giving to others, without the expectation of receiving anything in return, is incredibly inspirational and is a theme I know will resonate with our associates.”

The Heart of the Community campaign also features the launch an online volunteer portal for Centier associates, where users can learn about opportunities and easily register to contribute to events in their town. In the coming weeks, Centier is also hosting a volunteer fair and Board Member Boot Camp in conjunction with the United Way to encourage associates to get active with nonprofits in their community.
