Centier Bank Named as #1 Best Bank to Work For In Indiana, 7th In Nation

November 15, 2022

MERRILLVILLE, Ind. – Michael E. Schrage, CEO and Chairman of Centier Bank, is delighted to announce that Centier Bank has been recognized as the #7 “Best Bank to Work For” in the United States, and once again as #1 in the state of Indiana by American Banker.

For the past 10 years, Centier Bank has ranked alongside community banks and other financial institutions across the country. The 90 banks in the U.S. that made this year’s list were selected through two different surveys managed by the Best Companies Group. The first survey measured employee satisfaction in eight different categories, including communication, happiness with role, and relationship with supervisor.

Overall, the average score of positive responses for the banks that made the list was 91%, compared with 83% for the institutions that didn't make the cut.

In past years, areas like volunteerism and benefits were a focal point in determining bank rankings. However, the nationally-renowned American Banker Magazine took a closer look this year at employees who are also looking for an opportunity for career advancement, a welcoming workplace environment and strong leadership.

American Banker highlighted Centier Bank’s unique servant heart culture, as well as the bank’s nontraditional benefits intended to help with employees' holistic wellbeing, such as health and wellness coaching, free on-site medical clinics for workers and their families, and daycare and college tuition reimbursement.

“Our Servant Heart Culture means serving customers and communities in the most selfless way possible to enrich their lives,” Schrage said. “To be recognized by American Banker for the 10th consecutive year informs us that we are leading best practices that impact the banking industry, while also challenging us to keep that momentum and remain a Best Bank to Work For in the years ahead.”

According to American Banker, the survey and awards program is designed to identify and honor banks with the best cultures for helping employees thrive.

“The banks recognized on this list are trying hard to create workplaces that employees want to join,” said Chana R. Schoenberger, Editor-in-Chief of American Banker. “Especially during this moment when companies are experiencing a shift in how, where, and how much employees work, banks are paying attention to how they can best retain their people.”

Chrisanne Christ, Senior Partner in Human Resource Development at Centier Bank, said this year’s ranking as the number 7th Best Bank to Work For in the country is validating that Centier Bank associates feel cared for and nurtured as a part of the Centier Bank family.

“It is heartwarming to know that Centier associates feel valued and taken care of, which motivates them to come to work each day and give our clients the best banking experiences possible,” Christ said. “We genuinely hope each of our associates thrives and flourishes while they are working for Centier Bank—and we aim to pave the way for continued growth and expansion for everyone--professionally and personally.”

Centier Bank recently surpassed the $6.4 billion assets milestone and was one of the largest banks on the list, with only three other Indiana-based banks being named. The distinction follows similar workplace accolades from the Indiana Chamber of Commerce (Hall of Fame), Forbes, the Urban League of Northwest Indiana, and The Times of Northwest Indiana, to name a few.
