Centier Bank Presents Historic $150k Sponsorship to Potawatomi Zoo

November 30, 2021

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — History was made on a chilly late November afternoon at Potawatomi Zoo, as representatives from Centier Bank gathered to present a check to the zoological society for $150,000—the largest multi-year sponsorship in the zoo’s history.

The donation includes the annual cost for the maintenance of the zoo’s train. The popular amenity is available to the its more than 220,000 annual visitors to enjoy as it rides around the 23-acre campus, and has now been renamed the Centier Bank Train.

Amber Pulford, Regional Sales Manager at Centier Bank, who also volunteers on the board of the Potawatomi Zoo, helped facilitate the sponsorship. Pulford said that the sponsorship is a testament to the benefit of community banks.

“Community banking is all about neighbors serving neighbors, and this sponsorship is a prime example of just that,” Pulford explained. “Centier Bank supports local organizations, businesses, and causes, which benefits everyone who lives and works in our community. The zoo is such an important place, and I am proud to be part of two organizations that are so devoted to South Bend.”

Margie Anella, Director of Development of the Potawatomi Zoological Society, said the sponsorship dollars will especially help with maintenance and upkeep of the train, which she said is the “most beloved part of the zoo.”

“The train is a one-third scale replica of a C.P. Huntington Locomotive, and is the zoo’s most popular attraction,” Anella said. “Centier’s investment in this amenity is a sign of the zoo’s heightened profile and value in the region, as well as Centier’s commitment to the community.”

The zoo plans to open the 2022 season with the new Giraffe Feeding Adventure, which will be visible along the train route. Anella said this unique feature will enhance the train experience and the zoo plans to continue improving the guest’s experience, creating a memorable experience for all who visit.
