Downtown South Bend Welcomes First Bank in More Than a Decade
August 14, 2017
SOUTH BEND, IN - Michael E. Schrage, Chairman of the Board, President, and CEO of Centier Bank, is pleased to announce the grand opening of a new Downtown South Bend Banking Center located at 108 N. Main Street. The newly remodeled branch is located in the historic JMS Building at the corner of Main Street and Washington. Centier’s new facility offers full-service banking for personal and commercial clients. The branch lobby is open Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST.
This is the first bank opening in downtown South Bend in more than a decade. Centier has experienced steady growth in the Michiana region, having entered the market in 2006, with a Mishawaka loan production office. Since then, Centier has expanded its growth with business banking centers in Mishawaka and Elkhart, with additional new branches planned to open by year’s end in Granger, Goshen, along with a grocery store branch inside of South Bend Meijer.
“We’re invading the Michiana region,” stated Schrage, who revealed plans for a historic ribbon cutting ceremony, which includes cutting a 10-foot bow on the side of the JMS building Thursday morning. Schrage will arrive along with Jeff Rea of the South Bend Regional Chamber, and Mike Leep of Gurley Leep (a member of Centier’s Board of Directors), and others, in a Studebaker caravan to the branch. “We are paying homage to a family name that is synonymous with South Bend history, and hope that our bank name will someday be as widely recognized in the Michiana region,” stated Schrage.
Centier’s South Bend Downtown office concentrates its services as a full-service business hub for both personal and commercial lending services; the second floor houses a commercial loan team serving the entire Michiana market. The Banking Center features convenient 24/7 banking services via a walk-up EZ Deposit ATM (which accepts check and cash deposits 24/7). In addition, Investment, Trust, and Retirement Planning services are available by appointment.
Centier Bank is a growing community bank with assets over $3.7 billion and a legal lending limit greater than $60 million.
“We have great relationships with our clients,” stated Centier Bank Community Market President, Steve Watts. “Thanks to them, this led to high demand for additional offices to support our growth. Now, we are connecting a strong network of Centier locations for the convenience of our clients and to address all of Michiana’s banking needs. “
Schrage, who will be lifted along with Mayor Pete Buttigieg to cut a 10-foot ribbon attached to the corner of the building, is also commemorating the grand opening with a $1,000 donation to the South Bend Heritage Foundation.
Centier’s ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at 10:00 a.m. EST Thursday morning.
