Food Bank Northwest Indiana Centier BankMerrillville  – The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is on track to complete a 72,000 square foot facility and Centier Bank is committing to support that dream with a 5-year, $10,000 commitment to the food bank’s “Fighting Hunger, Building Hope” capital campaign for a new facility.

As of May 3, the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana has raised 60% of its $4 million goal for the facility, which will be located at 6490 Broadway in Merrillville. In 2017, the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana distributed 4.5 million meals out of its 12,000 square foot facility and has been forced to turn away food because of inadequacies of its amenities. This new facility will allow the organization to more fully meet the needs of the community.

“Centier Bank has been a longtime supporter of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana and we are proud to assist this organization in building a new facility that will serve so many for years to come,” said Mike Schrage, President and CEO of Centier Bank. “We serve an important role in the being a true community bank and we stay committed to our Servant Heart Culture of giving back to the communities we serve.”

The Fighting Hunger, Building Hope campaign launched in May 2018 and has the aim of raising the remaining 40% of the $4 million goal to build the new facility. Once reached, the Food Bank will be able to increase the amount of fresh foods distributed by as much as 500% to 18 million meals each year.

“We understand the importance of what the Food Bank does for the Northwest Indiana community,” said Anthony Contrucci, Vice President of Community Relations and Business Development for Centier Bank. “This commitment is more than giving back to an organization, it’s about feeding Hoosiers. We are a proud partner of the Food Bank and look forward to this facility allowing the organization to continue to expand its services.”
